Apple Watch SE

Introduction

So the one part of the Apple ecosystem that I had no paid any attension to is the watch. I had never been interested enough todo so. But I decided this year. That had to change. I wanted to get my own Apple watch. But unlike everyone else, I didn’t rearlly know what I wanted it for.

Other family members had them for the fitness aspect, but that is so not me. Other family members just liked it for the fact that you can get the notifications on the wrist. My dad has had the top spec series 5 for some time and loves it, but has had his fair share of issues with it. Mainly the battery not lasting as look as it should. But I was not going to let that put me off.

Choosing the watch

Unlike choosing a MacBook or an iPad. The watch is not as easy to choose from. Mainly because there are so many options to have. The first choice to make is what series to get and in 2021 the choices are series 3, 5, or the SE. I looked at series 3 and this was a viable option for me. But then I considered that this might just be outdated in a few years. I looked at the 6 too and I did nearly settle for this. But then I saw the SE. The only difference between the 6 and the SE is the always-on display, blood O2, and ECG. These features I don’t really care about anyway, so I went with the SE. Next was the size and budget chose this for me. So I went with the 40mm.

Next was the strap and this came down to total personal preference. So I won’t go too into detail here. But I didn’t want the plastic sports band. I quite liked the look of the “Abyss Sport Loop”. So this is what I chose in blue. The photo to the left is the exact model I chose.

Order process

The order process what very nice. I ordered from the Apple store directly on the iOS app. I managed to customize the watch I wanted and then place the order directly in the app. I used an Apple gift card I had left over and within minutes, the order was placed.

The wait was excrusating. From ordering as they are made to order. I had an estimated wait of 15 days. As it had to be manufacured and sent from China directly. But it turned up after about 7 days.

Setup experience

Once it arrived, the setup exeprience felt (like any Apple product) very premium. I just had to turn the watch on and my phone found it right away. Following the on-screen prompts and within a few minutes the watch was ready togo. I only critisisum I have is that it did take a while to get setup and there was a lot of waiting.

Conclusion

Overall, I have found the watch to be a nice edition to my life. I deffently do not use it as well as I could. But even being able to control my notifications from my wrist and even my music in conjunction with AirPods. I cant honestly say if I recomend one or not as it is a very personal item to the individuel. But I very much injoy it. Particularly in COVID-19. Becuase I can now unlock my phone with my face covered.
